Why am I going to Tanzania?
I am going to Tanzania because Simon's Promise inspires me and has given me the opportunity to travel.
I am going to Tanzania because I have found my calling in service.
I am going to Tanzania because God has called me to be a part of something bigger than myself.
Genesis 12: 1-3
The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
When my mentor and former English teacher told me about the non-profit she'd help found, I had a gut feeling that I'd never felt before. My passion to be part of something was recognized and woken up within me, and if you've ever felt that drive you know it is indescribable yet awesome. I'd never been sure of anything before, but I was sure I needed to be involved with Simon's Promise and I needed to go on the July 2017 trip to Tanzania.
I have given my time as an intern to the non-profit, and my best friends and I founded a Simon's Promise Service Chapter at our high school that I resided over as the lead intern. That was something else, let me tell you! Never had my opinions and observations affected how something 'grown-up' worked. I learned about non-profit founding and management, and in these last few months I've realized non-profit work is something I want to do for a long time.

The reason I am so excited to go to Tanzania is because this is only the beginning of what I will do. This is the first of many steps toward making a difference, and between all the big leaps, I'll make small strides in helping many individuals.
I have found my calling and I intend to follow it.
